Sir Rod Stewart is undeniably one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with a career spanning decades and a voice that remains instantly recognizable. From Gasoline Alley to Another Country, his music has left a lasting impact across generations.
A Long-Awaited Concert
Back in 2016, my parents were all set to see Rod Stewart perform at the O2 Arena in London. Unfortunately, the tour was cancelled due to illness, leaving them both disappointed. Fast forward to February 2017, and Sir Rod announced his return, reigniting our excitement.
This time, however, my dad couldn’t attend as he was unwell. That meant I got the chance to step in and join my mum, marking my third-ever concert experience.
The Atmosphere & Warm-Up Act
The O2 buzzed with anticipation, though the warm-up act didn’t quite hit the mark. They were talented, but their style didn’t reflect Rod Stewart’s Scottish roots. Despite being born and raised in London, he proudly embraces his Scottish and English ancestry, which adds a unique layer to his music.
By the time the support act wrapped up, we were counting down the seconds for Rod to take the stage.
Rod Stewart Takes the Stage
When Rod Stewart finally appeared, the energy in the arena was electrifying. I wouldn’t have expected a disco-themed vibe from him, but it surprisingly fit, adding a fun twist to the night. His setlist was a perfect mix, blending classics from my younger years with his newer tracks.

Comparing the Experience
While Rod Stewart’s performance was fantastic, it didn’t quite tug at my heartstrings like the UB40 Labour of Love concert. UB40’s music carries more personal memories for me, which made that night feel extra special. You can read all about that unforgettable evening HERE.

That’s not to say Rod Stewart wasn’t incredible—because he was. However, our seats were pretty far from the stage, which made it a little harder to fully get into the groove (plus, vertigo isn’t exactly a concert buddy!).
