Archive note: This post records my 2017 trip to The O2 in London to see Sir Rod Stewart live. I’ve kept the personal memories from my original review, while tidying the page so it works as part of the Clarissa’s Corner music and concert archive.
How I Ended Up Seeing Rod Stewart With Mum
At the end of 2016, Mum and Dad were supposed to see Rod Stewart at The O2, but the show was cancelled due to illness. They were disappointed, to say the least.
When he returned in 2017, Dad was unable to attend because he was unwell, so I got to take his place and go with Mum. This would only be my third ever concert.
Rod Stewart Live at The O2
The warm-up act was OK, but by the time they had finished we couldn’t wait for Rod Stewart to appear.
I wouldn’t have put a disco theme together with Rod Stewart, but it worked, and the selection of music was great. There were songs I remembered from when I was younger alongside other parts of his catalogue.
A couple of the songs I particularly remember were Tonight’s the Night and Maggie May. There was also a song played in memory of his father, which I thought was lovely.

How It Compared With UB40
In comparison with my night seeing UB40, this concert wasn’t quite as good for me personally. That isn’t to say Rod Stewart wasn’t good — he was. UB40 simply had more memories attached to the music for me.

I also think where we were sitting made a difference. We were a fair distance from the stage, and with my vertigo that made the experience less enjoyable than it might otherwise have been.
Looking Back at the Night
Looking back, what I like about keeping this old concert review is the memory attached to it. Mum and Dad were originally meant to go together, but circumstances changed and I ended up getting an unexpected night at The O2 with Mum instead.
