If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if A Christmas Carol collided with a genuinely drunk cast member, a room full of theatre lovers, and a script held together by festive chaos… then welcome to my A Pissedmas Carol review. Playing at Leicester Square Theatre, this show is unlike anything I’ve experienced before — wild, unfiltered, and outrageously funny.
A Christmas Carol… But Make It Completely Unhinged
Going in, I knew the concept: one cast member performs drunk.
Did I fully understand what that would look like on stage?
Absolutely not.
The realisation hit me the moment the intoxicated actor stumbled into the spotlight slurred words, infectious giggles, missed cues, and an energy that screamed “this could collapse at any moment”. And yet? That unpredictability is exactly what makes A Pissedmas Carol so brilliant.
This isn’t polished perfection.
This is festive chaos done extremely well.
Improvisation, Innuendo & On-the-Spot Madness
The improvisation is where this show shines. Every time the drunk actor derailed the scene, the sober cast had to pivot, adapt, and occasionally just dissolve into laughter. It gave the whole night a “we’re all in on this together” vibe.
What makes it so funny?
- The tongue-in-cheek innuendos that land harder because they’re unplanned
- The spontaneous flirting, which had the audience crying because it was so clearly not in the script
- The way the cast glanced at each other like “Welp, here we go again”
- The giggles… THE GIGGLES
- That incredible moment when the drunk performer tried to re-join the plot of A Christmas Carol but absolutely guessed the wrong scene
There is nothing quite like watching a group of actors fully commit to the madness and roll with whatever happens.
Does It Still Follow A Christmas Carol? Sort Of… And That’s the Fun
You do get the familiar beats of Dickens’ classic, but loosely. Very loosely.
It’s like the skeleton of the story is there, but covered in tinsel, chaos, and questionable decision-making.
It works.
In fact, it works better because of the disruption.
The Cast: Masters of Controlled Chaos
The sober cast deserve a standing ovation for keeping the show together. Their quick thinking, stage chemistry, and ability to improvise around drunken spirals is honestly impressive.
They’re not just acting they’re babysitting, story-wrangling, and occasionally refereeing festive nonsense.
And they make it all look effortless.
My Honest Thoughts
I’ve never attended a show like this in my life — and I loved it.
It’s messy, it’s ridiculous, it’s utterly unpredictable…
and that is exactly what makes it such a perfect night out, especially at Christmas.
If you want traditional theatre, this isn’t the one.
If you want a night where you laugh until your sides hurt?
