What’s It All About?
Written by Dan Patterson (Mock the Week) and Jez Bond, this alternative Christmas show reimagines Dracula with a wildly unhinged plot, loads of one-liners, and an all-vocal soundtrack featuring covers like Eye of the Tiger and Somebody to Love.
Think beatboxing monks, melodramatic capes, and a storyline that gleefully spirals into absurdity.
If you love your humour with a side of puns, and your musicals without instruments — you’re in for a treat.
Performance Highlights
- 🎤 Keala Settle (yes, The Greatest Showman legend herself!) surprised me in the best way. Funny, weird, and brilliantly committed to the chaos — it was fab seeing her in something completely different.
- 🕺 Stephen Ashfield’s Harker had me chuckling with his awkward energy and perfectly delivered lines.
- 🔊 Alex Hackett (ABH) was a total standout. Every beatbox effect? Nailed it. From thunderclaps to horse hooves, all powered by his voice alone.
- 🎶 Lorna Want brought strong vocals as Mina, mixing soulful singing with comic timing.
One of the joys of Dracapella at Park Theatre is watching the cast lean into the absurdity with total commitment.
Final Thoughts
This isn’t a deep, spooky vampire tale. It’s a campy, musical spoof with theatrical flair and big festive energy. If you go in expecting absurdity (and a lot of bite), you’ll have a blast. It’s not perfect — the plot goes off the rails a bit, and the style might not suit everyone — but for me, it was a fun night out.
