London’s fringe theatre scene is where some of the city’s boldest ideas, newest voices and most inventive productions begin. Rather than one single festival, London fringe theatre is made up of independent festivals, Off-West End venues and year-round programmes across the capital.

Latest Fringe Update
Camden Fringe 2026 ran from 3–30 August 2026, while two major autumn festivals are still ahead: Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest runs 11–20 September 2026, followed by Lambeth Fringe from 24 September–25 October 2026.
Camden Fringe
Camden Fringe is one of London’s best-known independent performing arts festivals. Established in 2006, it was created as a London alternative to Edinburgh Fringe and welcomes everything from new writing, comedy and musicals to cabaret, dance, poetry and experimental work. The 2026 festival ran from 3–30 August.
Lambeth Fringe
Lambeth Fringe is a five-week performing arts festival across South London, run by the team behind The Bread & Roses Theatre. Formerly known as the Clapham Fringe, it has expanded across multiple venues and includes theatre, comedy, music, dance, film, cabaret, workshops, family shows and new writing.

Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest
Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest brings together queer cinema, performance, live art and creative events across London. The 2026 festival runs from 11–20 September and sits naturally between our fringe coverage and the LGBTQIA+ Culture, Theatre & Community hub.

New Writing & Emerging Artists
Not every fringe production belongs to a large festival. Smaller runs, scratch nights, early-career artists, new writing and independent companies are a huge part of London’s theatre ecology, particularly across pub theatres, studio spaces and Off-West End venues.
Fringe & Off-West End Theatre – Year Round
Fringe-style and Off-West End theatre runs throughout the year. These smaller spaces are often where riskier ideas, new companies and more intimate productions thrive, and they are an important part of Clarissa’s Corner theatre coverage.
As our venue guides grow, this hub will connect to independent theatres, reviews, Stagey Spotlight features and current What’s On coverage rather than treating fringe theatre as something that only happens during festival season.
Accessibility at Fringe Shows
Access can vary considerably between fringe venues, particularly in older pub theatres and temporary spaces. Check the individual venue for step-free routes, accessible toilets, hearing support, captioning, BSL, relaxed performances and re-entry arrangements before booking.
