Katsu Curry Recipe – Easy Dinner Win or Family Fumble?

Looking for a simple, tasty way to bring Japanese flavours to your kitchen? This Katsu Curry recipe is perfect for switching up your usual meals, especially if you’re tired of the same old dishes. I tried it with the help of the Yutaka kit, and here’s how it went — drama, flour mishaps and all!

Spice Level: Slowly Upping My Game

I used to be a Korma or Tikka Masala girl through and through. A lamb rogan josh was about as bold as I’d get. But recently, I’ve been upping my heat tolerance — even ordering a chicken jalfrezi now and then. Perfect for blowing out a nasty cold, by the way.

The Katsu Kit: Yutaka Goodness

We were sent a Yutaka Katsu Curry Kit, and you can. With a few added ingredients and clear instructions, we were ready to go.

What You’ll Need:

  • Chicken breast
  • Plain flour (💡 Note to self: check the date next time)
  • 1–2 eggs (2 worked better)
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Onion
  • Katsu curry paste tray
  • 500ml water
  • Long-grain rice
  • Sweetcorn (sneaky five-a-day boost)

Method (a.k.a. Kitchen Chaos)

  1. Prep station: Three bowls – one for flour, one for egg, one for panko.
  2. Slice chicken into smaller chunks (this helps with even cooking!).
  3. Dip chicken: flour → egg → panko, then into hot oil until golden.
  4. In another pan, heat oil and fry the chopped onion.
  5. Add boiled water and the katsu paste tray, stirring until melted and smooth.
  6. Meanwhile, cook rice with a handful of sweetcorn for a colourful twist.

Katsu Curry Verdict

🎉 The result? A warm, comforting curry with a golden crunch — even the fussy eaters gave it a fair go. That’s a win in my book.

I’ll be making this again, and next time I’ll be even better prepped. Smaller chicken pieces, fresher flour, and maybe a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top for flair.
