Theatre fans, mark your calendars! Double Act, a darkly comic two-hander by Robbie Nestor, comes to Southwark Playhouse, Borough, from 19 March – 5 April. This gripping play tackles men’s mental health, masculinity, and the power of listening. It blends physical comedy, clowning, and dark humour to tell a moving story.
What to Expect from Double Act
The play follows a man who takes a day off work and heads to the West Sussex coast, planning to end his life. But within his mind, a battle rages—two competing voices of his personality argue over his fate. One voice is determined to go through with it, while the other desperately seeks reasons to delay.
Inspired by classic comedy double acts like Laurel and Hardy and the melancholic Pierrot clown, Double Act explores the turmoil of self-destructive thoughts and the internal conflicts many men face in silence.
As he shifts between memories of his boss, mum, ex-girlfriend, and strangers he meets along the way, the play takes audiences on a raw and powerful journey of self-reflection.
