Hadestown is heading from the West End stage to cinema screens for a limited run this October — and it is a release I am very excited about.
When is Hadestown: The Musical in UK cinemas?
Hadestown: The Musical arrives in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday 13 October 2026 for a limited run. The filmed live production was captured at London’s Lyric Theatre, bringing the atmosphere of the West End to the big screen.
It is also being released in Australia and New Zealand on the same date. Tickets are already on sale through the official Hadestown website.
The original Broadway stars return
The cinema capture reunites five original Broadway principals: Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, Patrick Page as Hades, Amber Gray as Persephone and André De Shields as Hermes. They are joined by members of the original West End company.
What is Hadestown about?
Written by Anaïs Mitchell and developed with director Rachel Chavkin, Hadestown retells the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice alongside Hades and Persephone. It blends folk, blues and New Orleans-inspired jazz with a dark, industrial underworld setting — which makes it a perfect crossover for anyone who loves theatre, mythology and a story with a little edge.
The musical won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. For people who have not managed to get a theatre ticket — or who simply want to head way down once again — this cinema release is a lovely chance to experience it.
Will I be seeing it?
Absolutely. As someone who loves Greek-myth retellings on stage and screen, I cannot wait to see how this much-loved production translates in the cinema. I will be back with my thoughts after the screening.
