Capsule Wardrobe Shopping – Monday Musings 2016

Building My Capsule Wardrobe

Back in 2016, I was having so much fun putting together my capsule wardrobe. The main challenge was finding shoes and boots that would last while still working with several outfits. Seriously, how hard could it be to find good tan and black boots?

At the time, I already owned tan, black and dark-brown boots. Mum had also given me a few pairs of shoes to add to my capsule list. Then I picked an outfit and realised those size-eight black ballet pumps just weren’t going to work… sob.

My 2016 Capsule Wardrobe Shopping List

First, I ordered black riding boots and tan riding boots from Next. Both colours felt useful because they could work across lots of different outfits.

I was also browsing Select for a few extra pieces. A grey zip-pocket suedette skirt caught my eye, along with a zip-front long-sleeve blouse.

Another favourite was the Baily wrapped-chain loafers. I loved their nautical feel, chain detail and trim. More importantly, they looked versatile enough to wear more than once instead of being bought for a single outfit and forgotten.

Looking Back at My Capsule Wardrobe

Looking back, this little shopping list shows how I was trying to buy clothes more deliberately in 2016. I wanted to work out what I already owned before filling the gaps.

That meant choosing shoes, boots and clothes that could do more than one job. The individual ranges are long gone now, of course. However, the idea of building a smaller wardrobe around useful pieces still makes plenty of sense.

  1. We went shoe shopping for Jaxon on Tuesday, My mum got excited about all the shoes although I couldn’t find any I like. I literally live in my trainers all the time. I do think I need to start dressing more yummy and less slummy mummy but don’t entirely know where to start.
