A Mythical Night at The Other Palace
Last night, I had the honor of attending The Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson The Musical at The Other Palace. As someone with undiagnosed ASD and ADHD, Greek mythology is one of my special interests, so I jumped at the chance to see this adaptation of Rick Riordan’s beloved series brought to life on stage.
From the moment I stepped into the theatre, the atmosphere was electric. Having seen Be More Chill and Babies at this venue before, I knew to expect an intimate setting, but the excitement in the air for The Lightning Thief made this experience feel even more magical.
Merchandise and Mocktails: A Themed Experience
No theatre trip is complete without checking out the merchandise! If, like me, you’re a collector of programs and pin badges, you might be a little disappointed as there were only keyrings available. While the merch was limited, I’ve got an idea brewing to create my own keepsake to make up for the lack of pins—stay tuned for that!
The show also offered themed drinks, including the Lightning Thief mocktail, which I couldn’t resist trying. It was refreshing and perfectly matched the show’s vibe.
A Close-Set Stage Full of Energy
The Other Palace is the perfect venue for a show like The Lightning Thief. Its intimate stage design made me feel like I was right there in Camp Half-Blood with Percy and the gang. The close proximity to the stage drew me in, creating an engaging experience that allowed me to truly connect with the cast. From the moment the show began, the electric energy from the performers filled the entire space, especially during the more emotional moments. It was the kind of atmosphere that made me feel like I was part of the adventure.
Songs That Stole My Heart
The music in The Lightning Thief is fantastic, but one song stood out to me on a deeply personal level: “Good Kid”. Growing up with undiagnosed needs, I found this song resonated with me in a way that few others have. Percy’s struggle to be seen, heard, and understood is something I relate to, and this number was truly powerful.
Other songs, like “My Grand Plan” and “The Campfire Song”, added layers of emotion and humor to the story. The music alone is enough reason to see this show, but the way it’s performed takes it to a whole new level.
A Stellar Cast and Clever Character Changes
The entire cast brought their A-game, but special mention has to go to Grover. He was a true GOAT (Greatest of All Time)—funny, loveable, and full of charm. He’s always been one of my favorite characters from the series, and this performance only made me love him more.
The transformations between characters were another highlight of the show. I especially loved the portrayal of Medusa, though I do think they could have done more with her iconic hair. Hades and Poseidon, on the other hand, were comedy gold, and their scenes had the audience in fits of laughter.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Percy Jackson or new to the world of demigods, this musical is a must-see. It’s packed with energy, humor, and emotion, brought to life by a talented cast and an intimate, electric theatre setting.
