The Creakers at the Southbank Centre is a must-see musical that blends heartwarming moments with important life lessons. Based on Tom Fletcher’s bestselling book, the show explores themes of uniqueness, kindness, and the importance of caring for our planet. With catchy tunes, a stunning set, and a message that resonates with both kids and adults, it’s a performance worth experiencing.
Embracing Uniqueness and Overcoming Challenges
The Creakers tells the story of Lucy, a young girl who learns that being different is a strength. The show emphasizes that, no matter what challenges we face, nothing is impossible. It’s a powerful message about embracing our differences and supporting each other.

Environmental Impact: A Show with a Heart for the Planet
One standout feature of The Creakers is its focus on environmental responsibility. The set design uses mostly reusable materials. For example, the sun itself was made from bottles! It’s a clever and impactful way to showcase the show’s environmental themes.
Incredible Performances and Catchy Tunes
The cast of The Creakers was incredible. Eloise Davies, who plays Lucy, and Rakesh Boury, who plays her dad, delivered powerhouse performances. Tom Jackson-Greaves, stepping in for an unwell Timo Tatzber, gave a fantastic performance as Sniff, one of the beloved Creakers. The show’s music, with its catchy tunes, will stick with you long after the curtain falls.

A Fun and Thought-Provoking Concept
The show does a brilliant job of reimagining the classic “monster under the bed” concept. Instead of fearing the unknown, The Creakers teaches kids that even scary things can have positive lessons. The 80s-inspired vibe and clever puppetry added a fun, quirky touch.
Tom Fletcher’s Evolving Storytelling
Tom Fletcher’s journey from There’s a Monster in Your Show to The Creakers shows how his storytelling has evolved. While There’s a Monster in Your Show was aimed at younger kids with interactive playfulness, The Creakers appeals to a wider age range. It brings in deeper themes of environmentalism, family, and individuality. Fletcher’s storytelling continues to grow, offering more complex narratives while maintaining the fun and musical elements his fans love.
A Heartwarming Message for Families
At its core, The Creakers is about family, kindness, and looking after each other. It’s a show that encourages compassion and responsibility. The friendships formed between the children on stage added to the heartwarming message of teamwork.

Final Thoughts: A Must-See Family Musical
The Creakers is a must-see for families. It blends fun, catchy music with important messages about kindness, the environment, and the importance of embracing our uniqueness. The opening could have been a bit faster, but overall, this show is magical. I would give it 4/5 stars.
