Fresh from sold-out seasons in Australia — including a five-star run at the Sydney Opera House — this bold bilingual production reclaims the original Yiddish roots of a revolutionary story about identity, faith, and defiance.
Set in a 1870s Polish shtetl, Yentl follows a young woman forbidden by Orthodox law from studying Jewish scripture. Refusing to accept the limits placed upon her, she disguises herself as a man and steps into a world of learning, love, danger, and discovery. What unfolds is a powerful collision of gender, desire, tradition, and belief — a story that feels as urgent now as it ever has.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Evelyn Krape and Executive Director Gary Abrahams, Kadimah Yiddish Theatre has re-emerged as one of Australia’s most daring and thought-provoking theatre companies.
Founded in Melbourne in 1911, Kadimah has championed Yiddish language, culture, and theatre for over a century, making it the oldest theatre company in Australia. As one of only a handful of contemporary bilingual Yiddish-English theatre companies worldwide, its work speaks to universal themes through a distinctly Yiddish lens.
The international premiere of Yentl is a major highlight of Kadimah’s 100th anniversary celebrations.

Yentl is presented and managed in the UK by Wild Yak Productions, led by Oliver King, in association with Counterminers CIC.
