Overview
Based at 51–53 Woolwich New Road, Tramshed describes itself as an arts hub in the heart of Woolwich. It is a registered charity and non-profit company whose work combines performance, participation, learning and community activity. Formerly Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GLYPT), the organisation changed its name to Tramshed in 2019.
The venue’s mission is centred on wellbeing, creative opportunity and using the arts to build community strength. Tramshed also has a long history of youth theatre and local participation, making it more than simply a place to buy a ticket for a show.
What’s On at Tramshed Woolwich
Tramshed’s artistic programme includes theatre, comedy, live music, exhibitions and community events, with a particular interest in work that encourages participation, represents its community and starts conversations.
For autumn 2026, current listings include Filling in the Gaps, a solo exhibition by Michelle Baharier exploring absence, memory, identity and barriers including disability discrimination, running until 15 September, and The Falcon’s Last Flight on 14 November, a Tudor drama imagining a final meeting between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. The current What’s On page also includes Tramtastic Club Night for adults with learning disabilities and difficulties, alongside networking activity for creatives.

Youth Theatre & Creative Learning
This is one of the things that makes Tramshed particularly useful locally. Children and teenagers can do more than watch theatre here — they can learn how to make it.
Tramshed’s regular programme includes Junior Youth Theatre for ages 5–7, Middle Youth Theatre for ages 8–12 and Senior Youth Theatre for ages 13–18. Sessions focus on skills such as acting, improvisation, storytelling, character work, communication, confidence and collaborative theatre-making.
The Junior Youth Theatre autumn 2026 term is currently listed for Wednesday afternoons from 23 September to 2 December, with applications closing on 1 September. Middle Youth Theatre also has an expression-of-interest route for September 2026. Fees and places vary by group and term, with concession rates available on some youth theatre programmes.
Tramshed has also run Young Company projects for 13–19-year-olds interested in acting and theatre-making, offering professional-quality training and performance experience. Check the latest participation pages for future application windows.
Inclusive Programmes & Community Groups
Tramshed’s participation work includes young people and Disabled adults. Its regular programme includes Reach, a term-time theatre company for adults aged 18+ with additional needs, and Dramatic Voices, drama groups for adults with learning disabilities, learning differences, ASD and a passion for theatre.
There is also an inclusive Youth Drop-In for secondary-school-aged young people. The Friday group is open access and combines social activities with occasional workshops and creative sessions.
Alongside Tramshed’s own programmes, the venue hosts and works with local organisations including community music, dance, singing and creative groups. That mix is what makes it feel like a genuine neighbourhood arts hub rather than only a performance venue.
Accessibility
Tramshed has been designed with accessibility in mind. The venue lists level access across the building, lift access to the first floor, wheelchair spaces in the theatre, accessible toilets on every level and a Changing Place on the ground floor.
There is also a low service counter at the Box Office and Kitchen/Bar, induction loops in several spaces and WaveCAST assisted-hearing technology in the theatre. Tramshed is around a two-minute walk from Woolwich Arsenal rail and DLR station and about five minutes from Woolwich Elizabeth line station. Woolwich Arsenal has step-free access via lifts from both DLR and Southeastern platforms, and numerous bus routes stop close to the venue.
There is no on-site parking. Current public building hours vary through the week and Tramshed asks members of the public to follow staff guidance about access at certain times because the building is used by participants and vulnerable community groups.
