The three-time Tony Award-winning and Olivier-nominated musical Avenue Q is back for its 20th anniversary at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The show opened on 20 March 2026 — and there is now even more time to visit Avenue Q, with the hit comedy musical extended due to popular demand and booking until 3 January 2027.
Latest Update
3 September 2026: Original West End cast members Julie Atherton, Ann Harada, Siôn Lloyd, Jon Robyns and Giles Terera are set to return for a special 20th-anniversary performance on 17 September 2026. The performance will also be dedicated to the memory of Avenue Q set designer Anna Louizos.
The current production continues at the Shaftesbury Theatre and is now booking until Sunday 3 January 2027.

The Return of a Cult Favourite
When Avenue Q first opened, it turned musical theatre upside down. With outrageous humour, catchy songs and a cast of puppets, it became an instant cult hit. Two decades later, the residents of Avenue Q are making London laugh all over again.
This 20th-anniversary production reunites members of the original Broadway team. Tony-nominated director Jason Moore, puppet designer Rick Lyon and music supervisor Stephen Oremus returned to celebrate the show that changed their careers.
Creative Team
The revival features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with a book by Jeff Whitty. The production is directed by Jason Moore, with original puppet design by Rick Lyon, orchestrations and arrangements by Stephen Oremus, set design by Anna Louizos and choreography by Ebony Molina.
What is Avenue Q About?
Fresh out of college, Princeton arrives in New York hoping to find his purpose. He ends up on Avenue Q, a street full of eccentric neighbours facing life’s everyday struggles — from finding a job to falling in love.
Irreverent and surprisingly heartfelt, Avenue Q delivers its life lessons through puppets who tend to say the things everyone else is thinking.
Avenue Q Extended to January 2027
The original 20th-anniversary booking period was announced through 29 August 2026. Following popular demand, the West End run was extended and is now booking until Sunday 3 January 2027.
