The three-time Tony Award-winning and Olivier-nominated musical Avenue Q is back for its 20th anniversary at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The show runs from 20 March to 29 August 2026, bringing puppets, parody, and plenty of chaos back to the West End.

The Return of a Cult Favourite
When Avenue Q first opened, it turned musical theatre upside down. With outrageous humour, catchy songs, and a cast of puppets, it became an instant cult hit. Now, two decades later, the residents of Avenue Q are ready to make London laugh all over again.
This 20th-anniversary production reunites members of the original Broadway team. Tony-nominated director Jason Moore, puppet designer Rick Lyon, and music supervisor Stephen Oremus are all returning to celebrate the show that changed their careers.
Meet the Creative Team
The revival features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, the creative minds behind The Book of Mormon and Disney’s Frozen. Lopez is one of the few EGOT winners in history, known for his sharp wit and unforgettable melodies.
The production’s choreography is by Ebony Molina, who recently worked on Just for One Day and The Witches. Anna Louizos, the set designer for In the Heights and School of Rock, will bring the quirky New York street back to life.
Behind the scenes, producers Kevin McCollum (Rent, In the Heights) and Jamie Wilson Productions (Mrs Doubtfire, Sister Act) are calling this version “a love letter to the original.”
A Story That Still Hits Home
Fresh out of college, Princeton arrives in New York hoping to find his purpose. He ends up on Avenue Q, a street full of eccentric neighbours facing life’s everyday struggles — from finding a job to falling in love.
Irreverent and honest, Avenue Q mixes humour with heart. It’s full of life lessons told through puppets that say the things we all secretly think. The result? A laugh-out-loud, feel-good night at the theatre that audiences keep coming back to.
Why This Revival Matters
Director Jason Moore says, “It’s a rare and wonderful gift to revisit a musical you helped create 20 years ago and bring it into this modern decade with tweaks and surprises.”
With new staging and updated humour, this revival promises to make the story more relevant than ever. Two decades on, its message about growing up and finding your place still rings true — only now with an extra dose of nostalgia for long-time fans.
