Camping In New Forest  

Bewildered in the wilderness

I’m a girl for luxury; I love a nice comfy bed, bubble bath, air conditioning and all the mod cons; this includes wifi and a toilet nearby.

However, I am stuck in a tent Camping In New Forest, in the wilderness!

With no mod-cons, no wifi and no tv!

What have I let myself in for? Am I mad? Yes! Yes, I am.

We were greeted by the campmate’s leader, who is helpful, friendly and, more importantly, up for a laugh. At first glance, large tents are dotted around an area with a central section.

Where the leaders keep stock and gas canisters. 

There is also a hexagon with picnic tables and a campfire for the evening.

Day 1

was mainly chilling and letting the children run around; I was worried about letting the monkey wander too far from my eye range and for kk to have tree climbing competitions with the other campers.

At around 6 pm we had our welcome meeting where Nick the camp leader let us know how the camp was run and where facilities were ( we needed a map to navigate the toilet and showers ). However, in close range was the Eco toilet.

Sounds glamorous and, oh solar-powered lighting swishing door that in my opinion, needs a hell of a lot of WD40 sprayed on the runners.

And the luxury of not having to flush yes when you enter this fantastic invention, it’s crap on crap, wee on wee, there is no flushing involved,

and because it’s eco, it’s also disgusting to smell.

The first-night camping was a little weird purely because I love my bed and space, this is a single camp bed, and I’m 5″10.

And not that small in size, so turning was rather fun.

Day 2-

I pretty much enjoyed sitting about getting social with other campmates. The energy here IS, to a point, pleasant and accommodating, which gives you the community feel.

Aside from a couple of adults and their children, it was a beautiful environment. We went up to the lodge reception to book activities for the girls. If you have kids from 6 years plus, there is a range of things you can do, like

1. wall climbing
2. archery
3. zip line
4. high ropes
5. low ropes

and a small heated pool open at certain times. Sadly there was nothing for the monkey to do, but we did book pioneering for kk and hope for the next day.

So we went back to camp armed with sweets and some bits. Monkey loved the freedom to run around in the back with the girls.

Dinner was mushy pea curry Slimming World style, and of course, was lovely.
