CLARISSA’S CORNER SUPPORTS ❤️

Some causes sit especially close to home. Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice is one of them. The hospice cared for my mum and became a haven for our family at an incredibly difficult time. That personal connection is why I want Clarissa’s Corner to keep a permanent place for the hospice — not just when there is an event to share, but all year round.

This is Clarissa’s Corner’s independent editorial support for a local charity that matters to our community. It is not a sponsored post or a claim of an official partnership.

About Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice provides free care and support for people with terminal illnesses, as well as their loved ones and carers, across Greenwich and Bexley. Support can be provided at the Community Hospice in Abbey Wood, at home and in hospital, and includes areas such as symptom and pain management, rehabilitation, emotional and spiritual support, family support and end-of-life care.

The hospice says it cares for around 750 people in the community at any one time, while money raised through its shops helps it provide care and support to around 3,000 people a year.

Why Clarissa’s Corner Supports the Hospice

For me, this one is personal. Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice was there for my mum and for our family. I have written about losing Mum in my older personal archive, and I have kept those posts because they capture what that time really felt like.

Clarissa’s Corner has grown into a much bigger local platform since then, covering Greenwich, Bexley and the communities around us. I want to use a little of that space to help more local people discover the hospice, understand what it offers and find practical ways to support it.

If you want the personal background, you can read Cancer: The Fight of Our Life – 2018 Personal Archive and Death and What It Means – 2018 Personal Reflection Archive. They are preserved as archive pieces rather than rewritten with hindsight.

Ways You Can Help

You do not have to take on a huge fundraiser to make a difference. There are several ways to support the hospice, depending on your time, budget and what suits you.

Donate

You can make a one-off or regular donation, donate in memory of someone, support the ward, leave a gift in your will and explore other official giving options directly through the hospice.

Volunteer

Volunteers help across the hospice’s work, with opportunities that can range from its shops and gardens to administration and other practical roles. Check the hospice directly for current vacancies and ways to give your time.

Shop & Donate Pre-Loved Items

The Community Hospice has charity shops across Greenwich and Bexley selling pre-loved clothing, books, homeware and more. You can also donate suitable good-quality items. Always check the hospice’s current donation guidance before taking larger or unusual items to a shop.

Fundraise or Join an Event

From community events and challenges to organising your own fundraiser, the hospice runs a changing programme throughout the year. Rather than keeping an event list here that quickly dates, use the live hospice listings for what is coming next.

Hospice Shops Around Greenwich & Bexley

There are Community Hospice shops across the two boroughs, including locations in Greenwich, Blackheath, Plumstead, Welling, Belvedere and Bexleyheath. Because opening hours and shop information can change, the hospice’s live shop finder is the best place to check before making a special journey.

What’s On & Fundraising

I’ll keep an eye on local Hospice events through Clarissa’s Corner too, particularly things happening around Greenwich and Bexley. You can also find relevant local listings in my Greenwich Days Out, Events & Local Guide.

For the most up-to-date programme, always check the Hospice’s own events page.

A Permanent Place in Our Local Community Coverage

This page is the home for Clarissa’s Corner’s ongoing support for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice. When there is a useful local fundraising event, volunteering appeal, campaign or other practical way readers can help, I can connect that coverage back here rather than letting it disappear once the event has passed.
