What makes this performance sensory adapted?
This performance extends the idea of relaxed theatre, with adjustments intended to create a supportive and less formal environment for neurodivergent audiences, people with sensory sensitivities, learning disabilities or epilepsy, and anyone who would benefit from a more accommodating experience.
In addition, the organisers describe “what to expect” sessions introducing sounds, costumes, performers, characters and effects; free access resources; and a short pre-show introduction with BSL interpretation and captions. Meanwhile, relaxed movement workshops explore the story through games and dance in a supportive setting. Other adjustments include reduced capacity, softer sound levels, more consistent lighting, chill-out spaces and ear defenders on request. Before visiting, check with the venue about workshop availability and booking requirements.
What is Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella about?
For its 30th anniversary, this production reimagines Cinderella’s story in London during the Second World War. A chance meeting with a young RAF pilot leads to a magical night of romance before the Blitz separates them.

Content and sensory guidance
Important: sensory adapted does not mean sensory-free. For example, the production includes themes some may find distressing. It also uses smoke and haze, strobe lighting, loud noises, explosions and sirens. Check the organisers’ detailed content guidance and ask which effects are changed for this specific performance before booking.
