The Radium Girls is a new horror-infused musical heading to Southwark Playhouse Borough from 20 March to 8 May 2027. Inspired by the real stories of the women who painted luminous watch dials with radium in 1920s New Jersey, it mixes dark comedy, friendship, corporate greed and ghostly imagery with a new musical score.

What is The Radium Girls about?
Olive, Helen and Frances begin what looks like a glamorous job at the United States Radium Corporation, painting watch dials with the miracle element of the age. As unexplained illnesses spread through the factory and Olive starts seeing ghostly figures, the women begin to question what the company knows about the substance they are handling.
The musical is a work of historical fiction inspired by the real Radium Girls, using dark comedy and horror to explore friendship, ambition, workplace safety and corporate secrecy.
