2:22 A Ghost Story is based around a married couple. Stacey plays the part of a new mother, Jenny, and her husband Sam’s ( Joe Mcfadden) house. They recently purchased from a lady whose husband had passed, and she was finding the stairs and her age hard to tackle.
Jenny and the baby are left home while Sam is off on a work trip. They have already started renovating by peeling the wallpaper and Changing the back doors and other modernisations the kitchen and skylight, all shown in the stage set up it’s amazing
And they throw a little get-together for Sam’s uni friend and her partner, played by Donna Air and Ben ( James Buckley), who is a builder (he is pretty funny and offers the sceptical Sam A run for his scientific resolutions )
Jenny finds herself hearing noises whilst she’s seeing her baby upstairs. Strange things seem to be happening at night, always at 2:22 for the past few days.
Word of warning
Be aware that sound effects and lighting mainly make a few jump scares.
Sam generally comes across as a narcissist who believes science is the answer for everything and only he knows right.
You see how the move, sleepless nights, and having a partner away cause a rift between the couple, who seemed all but happier before their move.
I could empathise with Dooley’s character. She was left to do everything at the party while Sam showed his relentless know-it-all and was always right.
Being a believer in the supernatural and spirits being on this plain
I wasn’t keen on Donna’s airs character, Lauren. I got the overall impression that she was a bitter friend who was jealous of her friend’s happiness when he managed to find a wife home and have a child, and she seemed to be flitting around in relationships to get over her crush on Sam.
As the play continued, you can see Lauren, although her job is related to the NHS as a mental health professional who spends most of her time listening to other people’s problems and helping them cope with their mental health, has a few unresolved herself and as the night goes on you can see her desperation.
The clock on the wall reminds the audience of the time of events and a focus point.
It was thrilling with emotion that was realistic and unexpected turns in the story.
