Christmas at Scotney Castle 2026: Fairytale Trail, Lights & Parking Guide

Scotney Castle near Lamberhurst has a fairytale Christmas across its mansion and grounds, with a Gingerbread Man trail and a handful of after-dark openings. The important thing to know before setting off: book your car parking in advance, even if you are a National Trust member.

Dates and what to see

21 November 2026–3 January 2027, generally 10am–4pm, except 24–25 December when the property is closed. The mansion is decorated around favourite fairytales and pieces from Scotney’s collection. A Gingerbread Man trail runs through the grounds. Both are included in normal property admission, without an extra event ticket.

Late Nights & Lights

After-dark openings are scheduled for 12, 13 and 18–21 December, with illuminated mansion views, shopping and refreshments. Book a car-parking arrival slot in advance; the National Trust says parking bookings open four weeks beforehand. Standard admission applies on the evening, but you do not need to buy admission in advance.

Prices and parking

The published standard whole-property prices without Gift Aid are adult £20, child aged 5–17 £10, two-adult family £50 and one-adult family £30; under-fives and National Trust members enter free. Check the booking page for the applicable date and parking fee. National Trust members receive free parking but must still reserve a space. Visitors arriving on foot, by bicycle or motorbike do not need a parking reservation.

Accessibility and sensory considerations

Scotney’s grounds include steep sections, uneven surfaces and outdoor paths that may be slippery in wet weather. There are accessible parking spaces, accessible toilets in the courtyard and an external lift to the mansion ground floor. Some garden routes are suitable for mobility aids; manual wheelchairs and powered mobility scooters can be reserved in advance by calling 01892 893820. For evening visits, check lighting levels and the accessible route before booking.

Where and how to book

Scotney Castle, Lamberhurst, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN3 8JN. Follow the brown National Trust signs from the A21. Wadhurst station is about five and a half miles away, so check onward travel before relying on the train. Car-parking booking is essential for drivers.
