Sex & Disability – The Musical is playing at artsdepot in North Finchley from 15–19 September 2026, bringing a frank, funny and heartfelt story about love, intimacy, care, independence and disability to the stage.
It is the sort of production that sits naturally across several corners of Clarissa’s Corner: theatre, accessibility and the grown-up conversations we cover through Clarissa After Dark.
Overview
The musical follows Nick, a young stroke survivor who lives in full-time care with his divorced mother. When he begins an online relationship with Lucinda, his hopes for love and intimacy start to grow. Then his carer Jasmine enters his life, and the boundaries between care, friendship and desire begin to shift.
What Is Sex & Disability – The Musical About?
The production is created and performed by an almost entirely disabled cast, with performers bringing both physical and invisible disabilities to the stage. Rather than treating disability as a side note, the musical places disabled relationships, desire and independence right at the centre of the story.
The score is by composer Mishkin Fitzgerald, moving between comedy, tenderness, heartbreak and vulnerability.
Disabled Love, Desire and Representation
Disabled people are still too often missing from stories about romance, sex and intimacy — or included only through narratives about care, tragedy or overcoming adversity.
Sex & Disability – The Musical takes a different route. It looks at attraction, connection, independence, vulnerability and the sometimes complicated overlap between intimate relationships and care.
That makes it more than a theatre listing. It is also a useful cultural conversation about representation and about whose love stories are allowed to take up space on stage.
Cast and Creative Team
artsdepot describes the production as featuring an entirely disabled cast alongside Damian Darkness, bringing together performers with physical and invisible disabilities. The original score is by Mishkin Fitzgerald.

Accessibility at artsdepot
Accessibility is particularly relevant for this production, and artsdepot provides a range of facilities for disabled visitors.
The venue states that it has step-free access throughout, wheelchair spaces in both theatres, accessible toilets on levels 2 and 3, and a Changing Places toilet on level 2 with a bench and hoist. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome.
Both theatres have induction loop infrared systems available on request for people who are hard of hearing. For most performances, disabled visitors who require a personal assistant can also receive a complimentary ticket by contacting the Box Office.
There is currently one important access note for visitors arriving by car: the lift from the car park directly to the ground floor is out of order. artsdepot recommends using the lift from the car park to Aldi instead, during Aldi opening hours. There is also a drop-off area outside the building for disabled visitors and carers.
Anyone with specific access requirements is encouraged to contact artsdepot before visiting so the venue can help arrange what is needed.

Clarissa After Dark: Disability, Desire & Representation
This is also exactly the sort of crossover subject Clarissa After Dark was created for.
Conversations about disability often focus heavily on medical care and accessibility, while sexuality and desire can be treated as awkward subjects to avoid. But disabled people have relationships, sex lives, crushes, heartbreak, messy feelings and complicated boundaries just like anyone else.
A musical willing to put those experiences centre stage opens the door to much broader conversations about representation, consent, confidence, care and intimacy — without reducing disabled characters to their disability.
