Richard Harris’ feel-good comedy Stepping Out is heading out on a short UK tour this autumn. Karen Hauer and Lucy Benjamin lead the cast. The production reaches Churchill Theatre Bromley from Tuesday 22 to Saturday 26 September 2026.

Part comedy, part community story and part toe-tapping celebration, it has plenty of heart and humour. Plus, there is a little Strictly sparkle along the way.

Overview

The play follows Mavis Turner, who runs a weekly amateur tap class in a draughty church hall. Her students arrive with very different personalities and confidence levels. Some are shy or anxious, while others are outspoken or rather too certain of their own ability.

As the group works towards a charity performance, friendships form and tensions rise. Gradually, the class becomes much more than a weekly dance lesson. Richard Harris’ comedy finds warmth and humour in its characters. At the same time, it celebrates the courage it takes to put yourself out there.

Cast

Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer plays Mavis Turner. Naturally, she brings plenty of dance experience to the role at the centre of the class. Meanwhile, Lucy Benjamin plays Vera.
