Clarissa's Corner

Croydon has far more going on than a quick trip through the town centre might suggest. From theatre and exhibitions to parks, libraries, heritage and family events, this guide brings Clarissa’s Corner coverage across Croydon together in one place and will keep growing as new reviews and local finds are added.

Latest Update

September 2026 is a particularly good month for culture and heritage in Croydon. Open House Festival runs across the borough from 12–20 September 2026, with free tours, exhibitions, activities and opportunities to explore some of Croydon’s architecture and history.

The Museum of Croydon is also opening Shaping Croydon: Architecture and Ambition in September, while Fairfield Halls takes part in Open House on Saturday 19 September with free behind-the-scenes activity, guided tours and an Under-16s technical workshop.

What You’ll Find Here

Expect theatre, museums, parks, family activities, local events, heritage, seasonal ideas and practical accessibility information where it is available. Croydon is a useful base for combining culture with a relaxed local day out, and there are plenty of free options alongside ticketed attractions and shows.

Fairfield Halls

Fairfield Halls is one of Croydon’s major cultural venues, with the Ashcroft Theatre, Concert Hall and a programme spanning theatre, comedy, music, family shows and pantomime.

Current 2026 highlights include the free Open House Festival day on 19 September, Dinosaur Adventure Live on 26 October, and Cinderella from 11 December 2026–3 January 2027. Fairfield Halls has now held its 2026 Cinderella cast photocall and released official media assets, with Lee Latchford-Evans, Rachel Grundy, Charlie Guest, Sorelle Marsh, Luke Attwood, Brandon Nicholson and Chris Fearn in the company. A captioned performance is scheduled for 21 December and a relaxed performance for 30 December. You can also find Cinderella in our Christmas & Pantomime Guide 2026.

Museum of Croydon & Croydon Clocktower

The Museum of Croydon, based at Croydon Clocktower, is a useful free stop for local history, exhibitions and events. It explores the people and stories that have shaped the borough, with changing exhibitions giving repeat visitors a reason to return.

For autumn 2026, Shaping Croydon: Architecture and Ambition looks at the changing Croydon skyline, its modernist architecture and the planning ideas that helped shape the town centre.

Parks & Green Spaces

Croydon also has plenty of green space when you want a cheaper or slower-paced day out. Wandle Park is a four-hectare town-centre park with the River Wandle running through it, plus a playground, skate park, community garden, rose garden, tennis courts, bandstand and café.

Other areas worth exploring as this guide grows include South Norwood, Purley, Coulsdon and the greener edges of the borough, rather than treating Croydon as one single town-centre destination.

Free Family Activities & Libraries

Croydon Libraries run a busy programme of children’s activities across the borough, including regular rhymetimes, story sessions, craft clubs, Book Buddies and Lego sessions. Because library timetables change, check the current Croydon Libraries children’s events calendar before travelling.

Accessibility & SEN-Aware Planning

Accessibility can vary considerably between Croydon venues, so check the individual attraction or event before travelling. Fairfield Halls has step-free access to its venues, accessible toilets, a Changing Places toilet, wheelchair spaces, hearing amplification systems, a visual story and an access scheme. Assistance dogs are welcome, and eligible visitors may be able to book a complimentary Personal Assistant ticket, subject to availability.

If you are exploring beyond Croydon, you can also browse our Bromley Days Out, Events & Local Guide and Lewisham Days Out, Events & Local Guide. These local hubs are designed to connect neighbouring attractions and events rather than treating each borough in isolation.

Plan a Croydon Day Out

For an easy culture-focused day, combine the Museum of Croydon with a show or event at Fairfield Halls, which are both in central Croydon. For something more relaxed, add a park or library activity and build the day around what suits your family, access requirements and budget.

Event details can change, particularly dates, times and ticket availability. Always check the official organiser or venue before travelling.
