10 September 2026: Added Charles Darwin’s Down House as a local heritage and October half-term option, with Worm Weekend dates, the current 15% advance-booking saving and confirmed accessibility information.

31 August 2026: Autumn coverage now includes a growing Chislehurst cluster alongside the Churchill Theatre programme. New guides are being prepared for Wisdom & Wyrd at Chislehurst Caves, Scadbury Moated Manor Open Weekend and September bat walks across Bromley and nearby Kent. These will be linked here as they go live, while the main hub stays useful year-round.

Chislehurst, Scadbury & Local Heritage

Chislehurst is becoming one of the most interesting corners of our Bromley coverage, particularly if you like local history, unusual places and slightly darker days out. The area gives us everything from underground caves and Tudor archaeology to woodland wildlife events.

  • Chislehurst Caves – an evergreen visitor guide is in development covering the lamp-lit cave tours, practical planning and accessibility considerations.
  • Wisdom & Wyrd Market – 6 September 2026 – a free spiritual, Pagan and metaphysical market inside Chislehurst Caves, with traders and readers alongside separately ticketed cave tours.
  • Scadbury Moated Manor Open Weekend – 12–13 September 2026 – rare public access to the archaeological site and Tudor manor foundations, with free entry and donations welcome.
  • September bat walks – guided evening wildlife walks are taking place at several Bromley parks, with a wider Clarissa’s Corner roundup also covering nearby Kent.

Once the individual event guides are published, this section will link directly to them so older events can remain part of the archive without replacing newer Chislehurst discoveries.

Down House — Charles Darwin & October Half-Term

Worm Weekend: 24–25 October 2026 · 10am–3pm

Charles Darwin’s Down House in Downe is running a family Worm Weekend during October half-term, exploring Darwin’s earthworm experiments with worm identification and hands-on sampling in the gardens. The activity is included with normal admission; booking in advance currently saves 15%, while English Heritage members enter free.

Accessibility: Down House confirms wheelchair access, a lift to the first floor, wheelchair loans, accessible toilets, an adult changing area, two Blue Badge bays, Braille guides and audio-tour transcripts. There are also seating/rest points around the house and garden. The Sandwalk has uneven ground and some outdoor areas may be harder to navigate, particularly in poor weather.
