Winter is coming to the London stage! Following a sold-out 2026 run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, Game of Thrones: The Mad King is officially transferring to London in 2027. The new play brings George R. R. Martin’s Westeros to the theatre, exploring the power struggles that set the events of Game of Thrones in motion.

What do we know so far?
The Royal Shakespeare Company production is adapted by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke. The production first played Stratford-upon-Avon in summer 2026. The London venue, performance dates, London casting and ticket prices have not yet been announced. The story centres on the turbulent years before the novels, with the houses Targaryen, Stark, Lannister, Baratheon and Martell caught up in the struggle for power.
