Gremlins 2: The New Batch Screening | Warner Bros. & LEGO Dimensions

Gremlins 2: The New Batch Warner Bros. and LEGO Dimensions screening

I attended this Gremlins 2: The New Batch screening as an invited guest of Warner Bros., HMV and LEGO Dimensions in 2016.

Some films never lose their magic, and Gremlins 2: The New Batch is absolutely one of them. Being invited into London for this special screening was a brilliant nostalgia hit — and a lovely excuse to revisit the wonderfully chaotic world of Gizmo and the Gremlins.

A Warner Bros. and LEGO Dimensions evening

The event celebrated the release of Gremlins 2: The New Batch on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK, alongside LEGO Dimensions’ Warner Bros. collaboration. After making my way through central London — navigation has never been my strongest skill — I arrived to a warm welcome, an event pass and a room full of people ready to play.

Guests could get hands-on with the game, taking on roles from worlds including the Mogwai and Ghostbusters. The graphics had come a very long way since the Gremlins games I remembered from my Game Boy days, and it made the whole evening feel like a proper little trip back to childhood.

Revisiting The New Batch

I had forgotten just how much fun Gremlins 2 is. It has everything I want from a cult follow-up: Gizmo, ridiculous chaos, brilliant creature designs and enough dark humour to make it feel mischievous rather than simply nostalgic. The female Gremlin is still an icon, and the whole film has that gloriously over-the-top energy that makes it such a rewatchable favourite.

The screening itself was relaxed and comfortable — the only thing missing was popcorn. Waiting at my seat was a Warner Bros. goodie bag, packed with a poster, LEGO Dimensions stickers and information about upcoming games, plus special-edition copies of both Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. It was such a thoughtful finish to the evening.

A lovely bit of Gremlins nostalgia

I’m still grateful to Warner Bros., HMV and LEGO Dimensions for the invitation. Gremlins never really gets old: it is funny, odd, a little bit dark and full of character. Just remember the rules — keep your Mogwai away from bright light, never get them wet, and definitely do not feed them after midnight.

Have you got a favourite Gremlins character or moment?
