Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift Review

Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift stage production artwork

This Midsomer Murders review looks at The Killings at Badger’s Drift at the Churchill Theatre. As a fan of true crime, cosy mysteries and classic whodunnits, this was one of the shows on my 2026 theatre wishlist, and I’m pleased to say it did not disappoint.

If you’re a fan of the long-running Midsomer Murders television series, this stage adaptation is a must-see.

What Is Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift About?

Based on The Killings at Badger’s Drift by Caroline Graham, the story is set in the sleepy village of Badger’s Drift, where the murder of a resident reveals a web of secrets, lies and hidden motives.

Inspector Tom Barnaby is called in to investigate, and it soon becomes clear that almost everyone in the village has something to hide.

Every character appears to have a motive, but can you work out who did it before the final reveal?

Clever Set Design and Seamless Scene Changes

One of my favourite parts of this Midsomer Murders review has to be the set design.

The production uses a rotating set and moving floor sections to transform each scene with minimal props. Watching the stage shift so smoothly from one location to another was incredibly clever and added an extra layer of enjoyment.

Sometimes the simplest ideas have the biggest impact, and this was a perfect example.

Can You Guess the Killer?

I had my suspicions within the first 15 minutes.

The interval quickly turned into a detective debrief with my friend as we discussed our theories and compared notes. There’s nothing quite like the smug satisfaction of discovering your hunch was right.

Of course, if you guess wrong, you’re left wondering how you missed the clues.

That’s all part of the fun.

Cast and Performances

Despite having a relatively small cast, the production feels rich and full of character.

The cast delivers strong performances throughout, with several actors taking on multiple roles with ease. The script balances suspense with well-timed humour, making this an engaging and entertaining adaptation.

Fans of the TV series will be delighted to see Daniel Casey as Inspector Tom Barnaby. Daniel is best known to Midsomer fans for playing Sergeant Gavin Troy in the original television series, making his return to Midsomer particularly special.

Why You Should See Midsomer Murders

  • Perfect for fans of the TV series.
  • A classic cosy crime mystery packed with twists.
  • Clever staging and seamless scene transitions.
  • Humour is woven throughout the story.
  • Great fun trying to solve the murder before the reveal.

My Final Verdict

Overall, this Midsomer Murders review proves that The Killings at Badger’s Drift is a witty, clever and thoroughly entertaining stage adaptation.

I’d happily give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars).

If you love true crime, murder mysteries or a classic whodunnit, this is a fantastic night at the theatre.
