Charismatic, fearless, and always unapologetically himself — Layton Williams has become one of the most recognisable faces in UK musical theatre. From his early debut as Billy Elliot to his show-stopping turns in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Titanique, Layton Williams’ theatre career continues to break barriers and inspire audiences. Known for his powerful stage presence, electric dance energy, and dedication to diversity, Layton represents the new face of West End excellence — bold, authentic, and brilliantly stagey.

Training & Early Foundations

From a young age, Layton Williams showed an unshakable passion for performing — a passion that quickly evolved into a professional path shaped by prestigious training and early opportunities.

• Born on 13 September 1994 in Bury, Greater Manchester.
• Started performing at Carol Godby’s Theatre Workshop (Bury) and trained in ballet at Centre Pointe Manchester.
• Awarded a scholarship to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, London.
• Continued his performing-arts education at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, featured in CBBC’s School for Stars.
• Trained at the Billy Elliot Academy in Leeds before making his West End debut as Billy Elliot aged 12.

Layton’s résumé reads like a celebration of modern musical theatre — full of colour, confidence, and character.

• Billy Elliot the Musical (West End, 2007–2008) – his professional debut.
• Thriller – Live (West End) as Young Michael Jackson.
• Rent (UK Tour, 2017) – Layton delivered a moving performance as Angel Dumott Schunard, bringing both joy and heartbreak to the role. I was lucky enough to see him in this production, and it remains one of the performances that made me fall in love with his artistry. His energy, confidence and compassion on stage were unforgettable — the perfect mix of grace and grit that defines why audiences connect with him so deeply.
• Hairspray UK Tour (2015–2018).
• Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (West End & US premiere) – his defining leading role as Jamie New.
• Bad Education (BBC TV) as Stephen Carmichael – a beloved comic performance.
• Strictly Come Dancing 2023 – finalist and a true crowd-pleaser.
• Titanique (West End, 2024–) as “Iceberg,” earning him the 2025 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.
• Awards: 2019 Black British Theatre Awards (Best Male Actor in a Musical); 2020 LGBTQ+ Champion Award.

Current & Upcoming Projects 🎤

Layton’s career shows no signs of slowing down. After his recent Olivier win, he remains one of the most in-demand names in the West End.

• Titanique (Criterion Theatre, London) – currently starring in this camp, comedy-drama musical that’s making waves.
• I haven’t seen Titanique yet, but it’s firmly on my list.
