The Albany Deptford: Theatre, Family Events & Accessibility Guide 2026

Clarissa’s Corner feature artwork for The Albany theatre and arts centre in Deptford

Latest Update

Checked 1 September 2026: The Albany’s autumn programme includes family theatre, free jazz, creative workshops, youth sessions, community gardening and accessible participation projects across The Albany and Deptford Lounge.

Overview

The Albany in Deptford is one of Lewisham’s key cultural venues, combining theatre, family performances, music, community activity, creative learning and participation. It works as much as a community arts hub as a performance venue, with a strong programme for young people, families and local residents.

The venue is at Douglas Way, Deptford, SE8 4AG, close to Deptford station and Deptford Market Yard.

Clarissa’s Visit to The Albany

Clarissa’s Corner has visited The Albany in person for The Snow Queen: A Woodland Adventure. During that visit, I noticed the relaxed family-friendly setup, soft mats for younger children, gentle audience interaction, warm woodland design and the show’s thoughtful emotional message for young audiences.

What’s On in Autumn 2026

Accessibility & SEN

The Albany invites visitors with access requirements to contact its Venue and Events team in advance so support can be arranged. Current event pages include direct access contact details, and the venue also hosts inclusive programmes developed with specialist partners.

A particularly useful example is Do Your Own Thing, run by Heart n Soul at The Albany. It is a free monthly club for young people with learning disabilities and autistic young people aged 10–25, focused on friendship, creativity and social time. New participants are currently being accepted in the 10–17 age range, subject to the organiser’s joining process and support requirements.

Youth & Creative Opportunities

The Albany’s programme has a strong creative-futures angle, with free workshops, youth dance and participation projects. Current listings include Dance Groove for ages 12–24 and free creative workshops for ages 11–24 through Come As You Are.

Family Events

Family theatre is a regular part of the programme, with autumn and Christmas 2026 shows currently including The Tale of the Loneliest Whale, Eshu at the Crossroads and The Gingerbread Man. Deptford Lounge also hosts family activity through the wider Albany programme, including a pay-what-you-decide Kids Roller Disco on 12 December 2026.
