December at Churchill Theatre Bromley is all about festive theatre, family traditions and Christmas nights out. The big Main Auditorium event is Sleeping Beauty, starring Vernon Kay, while the Studio welcomes a gentler festive family adventure in Hansel and Gretel – The Christmas Escape.

Radio and TV favourite Vernon Kay is heading to Bromley for the festive season, playing the comedy role of Billy in Churchill Theatre’s Sleeping Beauty.
The traditional story begins when the wicked fairy Carabosse curses Princess Beauty, sending her into an enchanted sleep after she pricks her finger on a spinning wheel. With magic, mischief, big songs, silly characters and a happily-ever-after at stake, it is a proper family panto for children, parents, grandparents and everyone in between.
The production is presented by Imagine Theatre and promises dazzling costumes, spectacular scenery, show-stopping songs and plenty of audience participation.

Accessible performances
The relaxed performances keep the show itself unchanged but adjust the auditorium environment to make it more comfortable and welcoming for audience members who may need to move or make natural expressions. The panto’s final running time will be confirmed once performances begin; it is expected to be around two to two and a half hours including an interval.

Press note

Hansel and Gretel – The Christmas Escape

StoryMakers Theatre brings a festive twist to the classic fairy tale. Hansel and Gretel travel through snowy mountains looking for food for their father, discover a house made of sweet things and meet a baker who is not quite what she seems.
With original music, interactive storytelling and a warm Christmas adventure, this looks like a lovely option for younger children or families who want something shorter and more intimate than the panto.

Christmas nights out
Friday 11 December — Christmas Cabaret Ex-Drag-Aganza, Lounge
A festive drag cabaret hosted by Ula Lah and That Girl, with live vocals, dancing, comedy, games and a welcome drink. Age 18+. The Lounge is accessed by stairs and has no step-free access.

Saturday 12 December — Churchill Comedy Club
A monthly stand-up night for adults, with a changing bill of comics and resident host Carly Smallman. Age 18+.
Friday 18 December — Silent Disco: Dancing Through the Decades, Lounge
A Christmas-season silent disco for adults with three music channels covering 70s, 80s and 90s dance-floor favourites. Age 18+. The Lounge is accessed by stairs and has no step-free access.
