Weekend note: Saturday and Sunday currently have fewer recurring specialist adult activities. I’d rather show strong mainstream accessible options than fill the page with children’s SEND clubs, expired events or uncertain listings.
Finding somewhere to go shouldn’t mean spending hours phoning venues just to find out whether the toilet is accessible, a wheelchair can get through the door or somebody can simply sit and enjoy the activity without being expected to actively participate.
This guide brings together community activities around Greenwich and South East London that may be useful for adults with learning disabilities, complex needs or limited mobility — and the carers, families and support workers accompanying them.
Every person’s needs are different, so where detailed access information isn’t available, I’ve said so rather than guessing. Always contact the venue before a first visit if you need to confirm hoists, transfers, changing facilities, sensory adjustments, support ratios or another individual requirement.
How to use this guide
I’ve used simple tags to make the options easier to scan. They are descriptive, not medical labels.
- 🎵 LISTEN & ENJOY — participation can be mainly through listening or watching.
- 🎨 CREATIVE — arts, crafts, theatre or making.
- 🌿 CALM / OUTDOORS — lower-pressure community or outdoor options.
- 🏊 MOVEMENT — swimming, seated exercise or accessible physical activity.
- 💃 SOCIAL — meeting people, music, dancing or group activities.
- 🔊 LIVELY — likely to be noisier or more stimulating.
- ♿ STEP-FREE, 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET, 🚿 ADULT CHANGING — only used where current access information confirms them.
- 👥 CARER INFO — useful support-worker or carer information is published.
- 🚪 DROP-IN, 🎟 BOOK AHEAD, 🔐 REFERRAL REQUIRED — how the activity is accessed.
- ☎️ CHECK FIRST — contact the organiser before travelling if you need individual confirmation.
Quiet & listening-based activities
Charlton House Tuesday Afternoon Recitals
🎵 LISTEN & ENJOY · 🪑 SEATED OPTION · ☎️ CHECK FIRST
Charlton House’s free Tuesday afternoon classical recitals are a useful example of an activity where somebody can take part simply by being present and listening. The autumn 2026 season is listed for Tuesdays from 1pm–2pm, with seating available on a first-come basis.
Where: Charlton House & Gardens, Charlton Road, SE7. Cost: free. Booking: generally first come, first seated. If wheelchair positioning, accessible toilet provision, drop-off arrangements or other physical support is important, contact Charlton House before the first visit rather than assuming the recital room will meet every requirement.
SET Woolwich Community Canteen & Public Living Room
🌿 CALM / COMMUNITY · 🚪 DROP-IN · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET
SET Woolwich runs a community canteen and public living room where people can sit, socialise, have a drink or meal, browse books and games, and sometimes join community-garden activity. The current Greenwich Community Directory listing says the venue has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and accessible toilet.
When: café Tuesday–Friday, 12pm–6pm; community canteen Thursdays, 12pm–3pm. Cost: £3–£5 suggested donation for the canteen where possible, with subsidised meals for those in need. Booking: no booking required. This is a general community space rather than a specialist disability service, so contact the venue first if your group needs specific support arrangements.
Music, arts & creative activities
Tramshed Woolwich — Dramatic Voices Drop-In
🎨 CREATIVE · 💃 SOCIAL · 🚪 DROP-IN · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET · 🚿 CHANGING PLACE
Tramshed’s Dramatic Voices programme is specifically for adults with learning disabilities, learning differences and ASD who enjoy theatre. The Wednesday company is currently full, but the Friday drop-in sessions run from 10.30am–12.30pm during term dates.
Tramshed lists level access throughout the building, lift access to the first floor, accessible toilets on every level and a Changing Place on the ground floor. Contact the participation team before attending if somebody needs substantial physical support, a particular support ratio or a quieter introduction to the space.
Clarissa’s Corner already has a full Tramshed Woolwich accessibility and community guide.
Tramshed Woolwich — Reach
🎨 CREATIVE · 💃 SOCIAL · 🎟 BOOK AHEAD · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET · 🚿 CHANGING PLACE
Reach is Tramshed’s term-time theatre company for adults aged 18+ with additional needs. Sessions currently run Mondays from 6pm–8pm, with published 2026/27 term dates. This is a structured participation programme rather than a casual drop-in, so contact Tramshed’s participation team about places and individual support needs.
Monthly Adult Crafts at Mycenae House, Blackheath
🎨 CREATIVE · 🪑 SEATED OPTION · 🚪 DROP-IN · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET · 🚿 ADULT CHANGING
Reach Out Projects at Mycenae House runs free monthly adult craft sessions. The current listing specifically says people who need extra support should attend with a support worker, caregiver or family member.
Time: 1.15pm–3pm. Upcoming 2026 dates: 29 October and 26 November. Cost: free. Booking: no booking required. The directory lists an accessible toilet, wheelchair-accessible entrance, adult changing facilities and a disabled parking space, but also describes wheelchair access as partial, so check the route you will actually need before travelling.
LIFT Music & Movement
🎵 MUSIC · 🏊 MOVEMENT · ☎️ CHECK FIRST
LIFT Music runs interactive music-and-movement sessions across Greenwich for people of different abilities, including people with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. The sessions use simple movement to create music in real time and can be delivered in care settings, community groups, local venues or one-to-one at home.
This could be particularly useful for a care home or supported-living team looking for something brought directly to their group rather than travelling to a fixed venue. The current directory listing gives an organisational rate of £100 per session and an individual rate of £40. Contact LIFT directly to discuss access, group size and the level of active participation expected.
Social activities
Learning Disability Disco Night, Thamesmead
💃 SOCIAL · 🔊 LIVELY · 🚪 DROP-IN · 👥 CARER FREE · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET · 🚿 ADULT CHANGING
Camouflage Café in Thamesmead hosts a weekly disco for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, with music, dancing, games and socialising. It is one of the clearest local listings for practical support information.
When: Thursdays, 5pm–9pm. Cost: £3 per adult; carers free. Booking: no booking required, although the organiser can be contacted in advance. The directory lists a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible toilet, adult changing facilities, lift and disabled parking.
This is deliberately flagged as a lively option. The four-hour evening includes music and dancing, so it may not work for somebody who finds noise, crowds or longer sessions difficult.
Thursday Reach Out Wellbeing Session, Mycenae House
💃 SOCIAL · 🎨 CREATIVE · 🪑 SEATED OPTION · 🚪 DROP-IN · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET
This free weekly group combines tea and social time with activities such as arts and crafts, knitting, quizzes, bingo, seated exercise and board games. The Greenwich Community Directory lists it for adults including people with learning and physical disabilities.
When: Thursdays, 1pm–3pm. Cost: free. Booking: no booking required. Mycenae House is listed with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and accessible toilet. For somebody needing more substantial personal care support, check facilities with the venue first.
Swimming, movement & accessible sport
Seated Boccia & Seated SOSA Dance, Mycenae House
🏊 MOVEMENT · 🪑 SEATED OPTION · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET
Reach Out Projects runs seated boccia and seated SOSA dance sessions aimed at people with learning disabilities while remaining open to the wider community. Current weekly Wednesday sessions are listed from 11.30am–12.30pm, with additional monthly Thursday dates also appearing in the directory.
Cost: free. Booking: the directory currently contains slightly different wording across the weekly and monthly listings, so call Mycenae House before a first visit to reserve/check a space. The venue lists wheelchair access and accessible toilets.
Charlton Lido & Lifestyle Club
🏊 MOVEMENT · ♿ STEP-FREE · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET · ☎️ CHECK FIRST
Charlton Lido’s current Better access information lists a pool pod, poolside hoist, ramps and lifts, accessible changing, disabled toilets, disabled parking and IFI gym equipment. Better also says its inclusive offer includes swimming, gym sessions and lessons/courses.
This is best treated as an accessible facility rather than assuming every timetable session is suitable for every person. Check the live timetable and contact the centre before attending if somebody needs a hoist transfer, one-to-one support, quieter conditions or help identifying the most appropriate session.
Regular services & referral-based opportunities
Brighter Futures Skills Hub, Woolwich
🎨 CREATIVE · 🏊 MOVEMENT · 💃 SOCIAL · 🔐 SERVICE / REFERRAL ROUTE · ♿ WHEELCHAIR ACCESS · 🚻 ACCESSIBLE TOILET · ⬆️ HOIST
Brighter Futures is a specialist life-skills hub and day service for adults with learning disabilities. Its current programme includes cycling, music therapy, dance, gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, digital and money skills, daily-living skills and community outings.
Self-referrals and professional referrals are accepted. Current directory access information lists an accessible toilet, hoist, wheelchair-accessible entrance, lift and partial wheelchair access. Because this is a structured personalised service rather than a public drop-in, contact Brighter Futures to discuss eligibility, support needs and the current programme.
Heart n Soul — Allsorts at The Albany, Deptford
🎨 CREATIVE · 💃 SOCIAL · 🔐 CURRENTLY FULL · 👥 CARER INFO
Allsorts is Heart n Soul’s creative community for adults with learning disabilities and autistic people aged 18+. Activities can include dance, fashion design, acting and street art, in six-week Thursday blocks at The Albany.
Current position: Heart n Soul says Allsorts is presently full and not accepting new participants, but people can ask to be told when new-starter spaces reopen. The current cost is £5 per day, with parents and carers paying what they can. Keep it on the radar rather than travelling without checking.
For venue access, see Clarissa’s Corner’s Albany accessibility guide.
Useful local support & signposting
Greenwich Mencap Information & Advice: free information and advice for adults with a learning disability, learning difficulty or autism who live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, including help finding activities, benefits, housing, health information and employment support.
Royal Greenwich Day Opportunities: the council’s learning-disability day-opportunity work includes community activity and creative opportunities, but access can depend on adult social-care eligibility or service arrangements. Treat this as a route to ask about rather than a public events calendar.
Before you go — a practical access checklist
- Can the person get from the entrance to the actual activity room step-free?
- Is there an accessible toilet — and is it large enough for their needs?
- Is there a Changing Places toilet or adult changing bench if required?
- Is a hoist available, and what kind?
- Can a wheelchair be positioned comfortably without blocking an exit or aisle?
- Is seating available throughout?
- Can a support worker stay with the person for the whole activity?
- Does the support worker/carer need a ticket?
- How noisy, crowded or brightly lit is the session likely to be?
- Can someone enjoy it mostly by watching or listening without pressure to actively join in?
- How long does the activity last, and is leaving early straightforward?
- Is there somewhere safe to drop off close to the entrance?
- Does the organiser need advance notice of personal care, medication, behaviour-support or transfer requirements?
If any of those answers matter to the person you support and they are not clearly published, contact the organiser before travelling.
Know something we should add?
I want this to become a living local resource rather than a page that quietly goes out of date. If you are a carer, support worker, care home, supported-living team, family member, venue or community organisation and know of a useful adult activity around Greenwich or nearby South East London, let Clarissa’s Corner know.
The most helpful information is specific: step-free route, accessible toilet, adult changing, hoist, carer ticket, seating, sensory/noise information, booking arrangements and whether people can attend primarily to watch or listen. “Accessible” on its own rarely tells a support worker enough.
