PLAN YOUR JOURNEY
Getting to North Greenwich & The O2:
Transport Options + Handy Extras
Heading to The O2 or Greenwich Peninsula? Here are the useful ways in, sensible places to change, ways to get home and a few extras worth knowing about. This is a practical starting point rather than a live journey planner, so always check your actual journey before setting off.
📍 Where you’re heading
North Greenwich is the transport hub for The O2 and Greenwich Peninsula. North Greenwich Underground station is on the Jubilee line, with a large bus station alongside it. North Greenwich Pier gives you a river option, while the London Cable Car crosses the Thames between Greenwich Peninsula and Royal Docks.

🚇 Jubilee line
North Greenwich is on the Jubilee line. Canary Wharf is particularly useful for Elizabeth line connections, while London Bridge, Waterloo and Westminster make the Jubilee useful from central London.
🚌 Useful buses to North Greenwich
North Greenwich Bus Station is a major local hub. These are useful routes to spot first; use the TfL route page to check the correct stand, direction and stop for your journey.

180 — North Greenwich ↔ Charlton ↔ Woolwich ↔ Plumstead ↔ Erith
422 — North Greenwich ↔ Charlton ↔ Woolwich ↔ Bexleyheath corridor
486 — North Greenwich ↔ Charlton ↔ Shooters Hill ↔ Welling ↔ Bexleyheath corridor
129 — North Greenwich ↔ Greenwich ↔ Lewisham direction
188 — North Greenwich ↔ Greenwich ↔ central London direction
SL11 — Superloop connection between North Greenwich and Abbey Wood via the Woolwich side
Also serving the hub: 108, 132 and 335. 🌙 Late-night: N472. Check TfL for the exact route and stand when travelling.
⛴️ River
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers serves North Greenwich Pier beside The O2. It can be a useful alternative from riverside London, and Oyster or contactless can be used to touch in and out. River Bus fares sit outside the normal TfL daily cap, so compare the fare before deciding.
🚡 London Cable Car
The London Cable Car links Greenwich Peninsula with Royal Docks, useful for the ExCeL / Royal Victoria side and an experience in its own right. Its fare does not count towards TfL caps.
🧭 Coming from our local patch
From Woolwich
The 161, 180 and 422 give useful direct bus choices towards North Greenwich. The Elizabeth line also gives an alternative via Canary Wharf, changing there for the Jubilee line.
From Charlton
The 161, 180 and 422 all serve the Charlton side on their way to North Greenwich, with the best choice depending on your nearest stop.
From Blackheath / Lewisham
From Lewisham, the 129 gives a direct bus option towards North Greenwich. From Blackheath, compare your nearest bus connection with a change at Lewisham rather than travelling into central London unnecessarily.
From Bexleyheath / Welling / Shooters Hill
The 486 is particularly useful on this corridor, while the 422 serves Bexleyheath on a different route towards North Greenwich. Check which one is closest to where you actually start.
From Greenwich
The 129 and 188 are useful bus links between historic Greenwich and North Greenwich. They are different transport hubs, so do not assume the Tube connects the two directly.
From central London
The Jubilee line is usually the clearest rail option, with useful connections through Waterloo, London Bridge and Canary Wharf. The 188 and River Bus provide alternatives from parts of central London.
🔄 Useful places to change
- Canary Wharf: useful for changing between the Elizabeth line and Jubilee line before continuing one stop to North Greenwich. Check the interchange on TfL.
- Woolwich: useful for combining the Elizabeth line, DLR and local buses including direct North Greenwich options. Check Woolwich.
- Lewisham: useful for local rail, DLR and bus connections before continuing towards North Greenwich. Check Lewisham connections.
- North Greenwich: the arrival hub itself brings together Jubilee line, buses, nearby river services and the Cable Car.
🏠 Getting home
Do not assume the journey home will be identical to the journey in, especially after an evening show. Check the return direction, your bus stand and current services before the event finishes. The O2 area can become very busy immediately after major events, so having a second option — bus, Jubilee line or river service where it is operating — is useful.
💷 Keeping travel costs down
Fares checked: 21 September 2026.
- Bus: adult pay as you go is £1.75. TfL’s Hopper fare allows unlimited bus and tram journeys made within one hour of first touching in for £1.75 when the same card or device is used. The adult bus/tram daily cap is £5.25.
- Contactless or Oyster: pay as you go works across buses, Tube, DLR, London Overground, most Elizabeth line services and many National Rail journeys in London, with caps applying to eligible journeys.
- Children: TfL says 5–10-year-olds travel free on buses and trams; child and Zip Oyster rules differ across the wider network.
- Cable Car: standard one-way adult fare is £7 and standard adult round trip is £13.50. Cable Car journeys do not count towards TfL caps.
- River: prices depend on river zones and how you buy; River Bus travel does not count towards the normal TfL daily cap.
Compare the journey rather than assuming one ticket type will automatically be cheapest. TfL’s fare information is the safest place to check current costs.
👨👩👧 Family travel
With children or a pushchair, a direct bus or step-free rail route with fewer changes can be worth considering even when another option looks quicker on paper. Allow extra time around major O2 events, and check current child / Zip Oyster rules plus separate River and Cable Car ticket arrangements before travelling.
♿ Accessibility
North Greenwich station has lifts and TfL provides step-free journey guidance for the Jubilee line. London buses are low-floor and have wheelchair ramps. The London Cable Car has step-free access and accommodates most wheelchairs and mobility scooters within its size and weight limits. North Greenwich Pier is accessible; Uber Boat says access to its vessels here is step-free from street level, with boarding ramps available. Always check for lift, pier or service changes before travelling.
