Warwick Castle mixes more than 1,100 years of history with live shows, towers, gardens, family attractions and some brilliantly gruesome bits of the past. For younger visitors there is also an entire Realm of Zog inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, while older children and adults can add the Castle Dungeon for something considerably darker.
This is the main Clarissa’s Corner Warwick Castle planning guide for 2026, bringing together the ticket choices, what is included, the biggest attractions and the bits worth knowing before you go.

Warwick Castle Tickets 2026
Standard one-day admission includes the castle, grounds and the main live shows and attractions running on your visit date. Online prices vary by date and Warwick Castle recommends booking ahead.
At the time of checking, one-day tickets were advertised from £25.38 during the summer VAT promotion, with family tickets, Parent & Toddler tickets and annual passes also available. Treat these as guide prices rather than fixed prices because the amount you pay depends on the date and current offers.
What Is There to Do at Warwick Castle?

- Towers and Ramparts
- The Kingmaker
- The Time Tower
- Horrible Histories Maze
- The Falconer’s Quest birds of prey display

- 64 acres of grounds and gardens
Zog at Warwick Castle
And here is where Warwick Castle fits beautifully into our growing Julia Donaldson trail. The Realm of Zog brings the books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler into a proper family day out rather than being a tiny character add-on.
Warwick Castle currently lists five Zog experiences. Zog Playland is open daily, weather permitting, with live shows, meet-and-greets and the Quest for the Golden Star appearing across the 2026 season. Warwick Castle’s own pages currently show conflicting end dates for some Zog experiences — the main Zog and shows pages list dates through 23 October 2026, while the Zog Play & Stay page says the Quest and live shows end on 27 September 2026 — so check the timetable for your exact visit date before booking.
Zog Playland
Zog Playland includes a dragon-winged zip wire, Princess Pearl’s Tower, slides, swings, adventure tunnels, interactive sand and sensory play. Warwick Castle describes the play area as fully accessible for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility, as well as autism-friendly.

Live Shows at Warwick Castle
The show schedule changes through the year, which is why it is worth checking times when you arrive and planning the rest of the castle around anything you really want to see.
For summer 2026, highlights include Wars of the Roses LIVE! through 31 August, The Falconer’s Quest and The Legend of the Trebuchet. The Falconer’s Quest and Trebuchet are scheduled through 1 November 2026.
The Castle Dungeon
If the darker side of history is more your thing, the Castle Dungeon turns Warwick’s past into a theatrical walk-through attraction. It requires the appropriate Castle + Dungeon ticket rather than being automatically included with every standard castle ticket.
This is the bit I would naturally pair with Clarissa’s Corner’s Chill & Thrill coverage: history, performance and plenty of grim stories in one place.
Horrible Histories Maze
The Horrible Histories Maze is another good bridge between learning and family fun, taking visitors through different periods of history with interactive elements and the gloriously disgusting details children tend to remember far better than dates on a worksheet.
Is Warwick Castle Good for Younger Children?
Yes, particularly if you build the day around Zog, the grounds, live entertainment and Horrible Histories rather than expecting younger children to spend hours looking around historic rooms. Under 2s receive free castle entry, and a Parent & Toddler ticket is offered on selected dates.
Christmas at Warwick Castle 2026: Sensory-Friendly Light Trail
New for your Christmas planning: Warwick Castle is holding a dedicated Sensory-Friendly Light Trail on Monday 7 December 2026, from 4pm onwards. It is a one-night-only chance to enjoy the festive illuminations at a more comfortable pace, with adjustments designed for visitors who find a typical busy, noisy light trail overwhelming.

According to Warwick Castle’s official event information, the evening will include limited numbers per time slot, static or very slowly changing lights, reduced music and sound effects, and quiet breakout areas. A sensory map will be available in print and online, with short videos of different areas to help visitors prepare. There will be no roaming characters, and the team will receive sensory-evening training.
There is also an adapted Stories with Santa experience. Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves will be visible but away from the main trail, allowing children to decide whether and when they feel comfortable approaching them. This is a thoughtful detail for children who need to know what to expect before meeting a character.
When: Monday 7 December 2026, from 4pm onwards.
Where: Warwick Castle, Warwick, Warwickshire.
Booking: Check the official sensory trail page for available slots, ticket prices and what your chosen ticket includes. Do not assume a light-trail ticket automatically includes general daytime castle entry or Santa experiences.
See Warwick Castle’s official sensory light trail information and booking details →
Sensory-friendly does not mean completely dark or silent: this remains an outdoor illuminated trail at a historic castle. If particular lighting effects, paths or sound levels are a concern, check the sensory map and contact the organisers before booking.
Accessibility and Sensory Planning
Warwick Castle is a historic site, so accessibility varies considerably between areas. Towers and ramparts involve many steps and will not suit every visitor. If step-free access, mobility support or sensory planning is important for your visit, check the castle’s current accessibility information before travelling.
For families specifically visiting for Zog, the accessible and sensory elements of Zog Playland are particularly useful. Live shows, busy school-holiday periods, birds of prey and the Dungeon can all bring additional noise, crowds or darker environments, so it is worth deciding your must-dos before arrival rather than trying to fit absolutely everything in.
Can You Stay at Warwick Castle?
Yes. Warwick Castle offers short breaks, including accommodation in the Knight’s Village, and there is also a Zog-themed Play & Stay package for families. Packages and prices vary, so compare the stay with a day visit for your dates rather than assuming one option will always be better value.
Warwick Castle Planning Tips
- Book online in advance, especially for weekends and school holidays.
- Check the day’s live-show timetable when you arrive.
- Do not underestimate the size of the grounds or the number of steps in the towers.
- If Zog is the main reason for visiting, check the seasonal Zog dates before booking.
- Zog Playland can close in colder or rainy weather.
- Check whether the Castle Dungeon is included in the ticket you are buying.
- Give yourself a full day if you want to combine the castle interiors, grounds, shows and family attractions without rushing.
Is Warwick Castle Worth Visiting?
On paper, Warwick Castle has a particularly strong mix for families because it can work for very different interests in the same group. You have genuine historic surroundings and interiors, large live shows, gruesome history, outdoor space and a substantial Julia Donaldson attraction for younger children.
Clarissa’s Review: This is currently a planning guide rather than a first-hand review. If we visit Warwick Castle, I’ll add a separate personal review with what worked for us, what we would skip next time and how manageable the day actually felt.
