What Is Stick Man Live?

Based on the much-loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, Stick Man follows one very determined little stick trying to get back to his family tree. A simple morning jog turns into a rather chaotic adventure as he is mistaken for a dog’s toy, used by a swan and even ends up dangerously close to a fire.

The stage version brings the story to life with a trio of performers, puppetry, songs, live music, physical theatre and plenty of playful movement. You do not need to have read the book before seeing the show.

Stick Man 2026 Dates: London & Sheffield

London – Bloomsbury Theatre: 3 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Performances are generally scheduled at 10.30am, 1pm and 3.30pm, with some dates excluded.

Sheffield – The Montgomery: 5 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Performance times vary by day, with listed times including 10.30am, 1.15pm and 4pm.

Running time: approximately one hour with no interval.
Recommended age: 3+, although all ages are welcome.

Tickets & Practical Information

London tickets currently range from £15 to £30 for standard adult bands, with child prices from £10 to £23.50. Premium seats are also available for selected performances. Children aged 2–17 can use child tickets and under-2s can attend free when seated on a parent or guardian’s lap.

Sheffield tickets are currently listed at £15, £20 or £24 depending on seating band. School, nursery and group rates are also available at both venues, so it is worth checking the venue information before booking.

Accessibility

The 2026 London season includes BSL, audio-described and relaxed performances. Sheffield lists audio-described, relaxed, BSL and captioned performances. These are date-specific, so check the chosen venue before booking.

For London families, Bloomsbury Theatre also lists Euston and Euston Square among its nearby step-free stations and provides a dedicated buggy/pram storage area in the Studio on the lower ground floor.

This is the kind of family show that works particularly well as an early theatre trip: it is short, recognisable, visually playful and built around a story many children already know. The mix of puppetry, music and movement also gives younger audiences plenty to watch without requiring them to follow a long or complicated plot.

Stick Man in Education: Puppetry, Storytelling & Adaptation

Stick Man is a lovely introduction to page-to-stage adaptation. Children can compare Julia Donaldson’s storytelling and Axel Scheffler’s illustrations with the way performers use puppetry, physical theatre, voice, music, lighting and props on stage.
